Capt C. B. McVay

Dear Sir. Thanks for the letter of Sept 28 explaining the sinking of the Indianapolis and expressing your sorrow that my son Albert F. Poore, S/2c 936-18-63 was not saved.
I am asking you if you could and would find out for me if any of the boys which were in his division were saved. He was in Item div.
I would like to know if any of them or any one who knew him personally was saved. I would like to get in touch with or probably see them some time
This has been the greatest sorrow of my life and I just felt it would be some comfort to probably hear from some of his buddies.
I am sure if you can do this or tell me how I could get this information it will be greatly appreciated,
I am truly glad as many as was were saved only wish there could have been more.
Thanking you in advance I am
Yours Truly

Mrs. Franklin Poore.

My dear Mrs. Poore,

Your letter of November 5th concerning your son, Albert F. Poore, reached me several days ago.

I regret to state that all records went down with the ship and I have no list of names of the men who were attached to the Item Division, however, I do recall that James Edgar Reid, Boatswain's Mate second class whose address is 3410 Walnut Street, Chicago, Ill., was attached to the Item Division and is among the survivors.

Very sincerely,

CHAS. B. MCVAY, III
