Dear Sir,
My husband, Clyde Alton Pierce Chief Water Tender, lost his life in the sinking of the Indianapolis. I would like to be able to get in touch with families of certain boys that I knew on the ship. I haven't their addresses and thought maybe you could send them to me. It helps to be able to hear from someone that's probably going through the same thing you are.
Here are the names of the boys that I would like to receive the addresses off. The first four were in the group Clyde was one. There were two or three more in that bunch, but can't think of them now. If you have them, I'd also I'd to get their addresses,

Harold Flaten - Washington
Ellsworth Roberts - Mississippi
Red Cavitt - Mo.
...... Shinn - Oregon
Chief Ray Brooks - Washington
Chief Max Hill - Calif.
Chief Skee Makowski - Minn.
Lieutenant Barry - Clyde's Div Officer

I thank you very much -
Sincerely
Mrs Oneta M. Pierce

My dear Mrs. Pierce,

Your letter of October 8, 1945, concerning your husband, Clyde Alton Pierce, reached me yesterday.

I regret to inform you that Cavitt, Brooks, Hill, Makowaki, Roberts, and Lt. (jg) Barry did not survive. Harold James Flaten, WT2c, USNR, was wounded. He should be home on thirty days survivor's leave at the present time. His address is Box 252, Snohomish, Washington.

I have requested the Office of Public Information to send you a list of all survivors and their addresses.

May I again express my deepest sympathy to you.

Very sincerely,
CHAS. B. MCVAY, III
