Dear Capt McVay

I am taking the liberty of writing you to inquire if you can give me any information regarding Lieut (JG) Kendall Morse of your ship. Ken is engaged to my daughter Rose and she had the pleasure of meeting you in San Francisco just before you last sailed.
This afternoon Rose had a phone call from Mrs Morse in Lowell, Mass. telling that she had just received word from the Navy Dept that Ken has been missing in action since July 30. It is of course very difficult or impossible to get any information from the Public Relations office in Los Angeles.
We will very much appreciate any information you can send us.

Sincerely
Harry L. Masser

Dear Mr Masser:

I have recieved your letter and it is with regret that I have to inform you that, Lieutenant (jg) Kendall Morse, is not among the survivors and is missing in action. I cannot hold out much hope for his survival.

If any new information becomes available to the Navy Department Mrs Morse will be notified and I feel certain will pass it on to you.

Very Sincerely yours,

CHAS. B. MCVAY, III.,
Captain U.S. Navy.
