Dear Sir,
I read today of the sinking of the Indianapolis and I am very concerned about a very good friend of
mine who was aboard that ship. He is Pfc. Harlan D. Larsen (Marine Detachment).
Will you please let me know if he is wounded or missing and if he is wounded please let me know
where he is so that I may write to him.
This is very, very important to me and any information you may give me will be deeply appreciated.
Thanking you.
Sincerely,

Dear Miss. Anderson;
I have received your letter inquiring about your friend Pfc. Harlan Larson and I regret very much to have to inform you that he is not among the survivors and is listed as missing in action.
I cannot hold out much hope as all survivors are known at this time. His shipmates and I share with you your grief and sorrow.
If any further information becomes available to the Navy Department I know that they will quickly pass it on to his parents. I suggest that you keep in touch with his parents who will be the first to be told if anything new is learned.
Very sincerely yours,
CHAS. B. McVAY, III.,
