Letters from Lost at Sea Families to Charles B. McVay III
Captain USS Indianapolis (CA-35)
Letter to McVayCaptain McVay's Letter in Response

Cook, Floyd Edward

Mr. McVay

You'll never know how much I appreciated your letter. Don't want to be too much trouble but would appreciate very much a large picture of the USS Indianapolis... I would appreciate a service record of my son Floyd Edward Cook, shipfitter third class....He did not get to come home but twice. I did not learn about his navy life. I feel as I would love to know more at this time....

Very Truly
Mrs. Marie E. S. Jones

My dear Mrs. Jones,

Your letter of October 11, 1945, reached me two days ago.

All the service records went down with the ship, but I have prepared the complete enlisted naval service of your son taken from records here in the Bureau of Naval Personnel. I do hope this is what you had in mind.

In compliance with your request there is enclosed a picture of the INDIANAPOLIS.

Again may I express my deepest sympathy to you.

Very sincerely
CHAS. B. McVay, III
Captain. U. S. Navy
