Marine Corps Sergeant Richard I. Tracy Jr. was born on July 14, 1925 to parents: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Irwin Tracy, Sr. He enlisted in the USMC on May 13, 1943. He went aboard USS Indianapolis (CA-35) on October 7, 1943 to join a 39 man Marine Corps company.
Hi official responsibility while on board ship was Captain of a gun crew.
Prior to entering the Marines, Tracy graduated from O’Dea High School where fellow members of the O’Dea football team had voted him to be the recipient of the Inspirational Award.
In addition to his parents, Tracy was survived by his widow, Patricia Ann Tracy of Walla Walla, Washington, a sister, Margaret, and two brothers, Robert and James Tracy.
Tracy was Lost at Sea with the sinking of USS Indianapolis (CA-35).
