Water Tender Third Class Thorpe was born on June 7, 1925, in Claiborne County, Tennessee. He was the fourth child of George and Grace Thorpe. He attended school in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp (3c’s) until he took his discharge and joined the US Navy.
Lost at Sea Everett Nathan THORPEHe was one of six brothers who served in the armed services, one of three brothers in World War II and the second son of the Thorpes who gave his life during World War II. He was awarded a Purple Heart posthumously for Military Merit and for wounds received in action. This biographical information was submitted by his youngest brother, Cleland Thorpe.
