Marine Private First Class Arthur August Thomsen was born on February 3, 1922 to Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Thomsen of Atalisa, Iowa. He Went Aboard USS Indianapolis (CA-35) on January 31, 2025. Thomsen joined 38 other marines to make up the Marine detachment for the Final Sailing Crew of Indianapolis. In addition to the Purple Heart, he was awarded posthumously the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal and the Victory medal. (1)
