PYRON, Freddie H
Freddie Harold Pyron, Seaman First Class was born February 10, 1919 in Tyler Texas to Mr. and Mrs. James Birdo Pyron. Freddie was named after his uncle Freddie Pyron who died in 1918 in France during WWI, just days before the armistice was signed while serving in the US Army. His twin brother, Eddie Harold Pyron, also served in the US Navy aboard USS New Mexico.
Freddie was 31 years old at the time of the sinking and was survived by his wife Josephine Pyron, his father James Birdo Pyron, two older sisters Lorene and Willa Mae, younger brother Homer and twin brother Eddie. His mother died in 1925 when Freddie was 11 years old as the result of an automobile accident. Freddie joined the US Navy on March 3, 1942, and was home on leave in March 1942, October 1944, and May 1945, just two months before he was lost in the sinking.
