Seaman Second Class Glenn Evert Miller was born on April 25, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller. He was married to the former Goldie Potter. Together they had one daughter, Nancy Sue, who was 4 1/2 years old at the time of her father’s death. Glenn had originally been employed by the R.S. Kennedy Oil Co, but at the time of his enlistment in January, 1944, he was employed by Sears, Roebuck Co.
Project 888He received his Basic Boot Camp Training at USNTC (United States Naval Training Center), Great Lakes, Illinois. He went aboard USS Indianapolis on April 25, 1944. Miller was from the Knoxville, Tennessee area. He served on Indianapolis with four other men who all lost their lives as a result of the July 30, 1945 sinking of the ship. The five Knoxville area men who were Lost at Sea were: Seaman Second Class Glenn E. Miller Lt. Commander Kyle Moore Lt. Commander Earl O’Dell Henry Seaman First Class Carey L. Underwood Seaman First Class Stanley F. Jones
