Quartermaster Second Class (1) Arthur Labuda was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 19, 1925.
He was inducted into the United State Navy in May 1943 and trained at USNTC (United States Naval Training Center), Great Lakes, Illinois. Arthur boarded USS Indianapolis in the fall 1943 and engaged in eight battles before Indianapolis was attacked. His first engagement was Tarawa (Gilbert Islands Operation) in the South Pacific. He participated in the Marshall Island Operations, Asiatic-Pacific Raids, Marianas Operations, Capture of the Tinian Island. Western Caroline Islands Operations, Raids on the Japanese Islands (and the capture of Iwo Jima), and the Okinawa Gunto Operations. Arthur did not survive the attack on Indianapolis on July 30, 1945. He was survived by his parents, Adam and Wanda, brothers Edwin (deceased), Leonard and Elmer, and sisters Evelyn and Christine.
