Machinist's Mate Third Class Good was born on July 24, 1908 at McClure, Ohio to James and Metta Good. He was entered the US Navy in March 1943, and he went through boot camp at USNTC (United States Naval Training Center), Great Lakes, Illinois and was then subsequently assigned April 27, 1944, to the USS Indianapolis.
He was known to many of his shipmates as "Pops" as he was 10-15 years their senior. His wife Evelyn had spent the month of June 1945 with him in San Francisco, California. In addition to his wife, he was survived by a son, Thomas and two daughters, Constance and Sandra. His descendants subsequently included grandchildren, Brenda and Thomas Good Jr.; Cathy, Richard, Robert, Leigh Ann Cobb; and Cynthia and Lisa Johnson.
