CHRISTIAN, Lewis E Jr.
Lewis Enoch Christian Jr. was born April 23, 1918 in Hawkins County, Tennessee, son of Lewis Enoch Christian and Mary Ethel Caldwell. He had a younger brother, Garnie, who also served in the Navy during WWII. The family lived in Hawkins County, Tennessee, where his father was a farmer.
He enlisted in the Navy prior to 1940, when he appears in the US census in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the Navy Yard enlisted men’s barracks. He was an electrician. On November 15, 1944 his rate changed to Chief Electrician. In 1945 he was on the final sail list of the USS Indianapolis.
