Seaman First Class Donald Eyet was born on October 23, 1922, in the town of Falls, Exeter Township, Pennsylvania. He was the fourth of eleven children and oldest son born to Archie Dymond and Iona Phoenix Eyet. He attended Mill City School, helped his Dad on the family farm, and worked as a farmhand until he enlisted in the Navy in May of 1943.
Lost at Sea Donald Archie EYETDon completed his basic training in Sampson, NY and he was assigned to USS Indianapolis where he went aboard August 7, 1943. He did whatever he could to help his parents and looked after his siblings, both younger and older. He served two years aboard USS Indianapolis until he was lost at sea on July 30, 1945. When the Indy Memorial was dedicated in Indianapolis, his 4 living siblings were unable to travel. So his nephew and great niece traveled from Pennsylvania and were at the Memorial in Indianapolis as his flag was lowered and they received it on behalf of the family. Gone but not forgotten.
